The ability of information combining among project parts with information of the unit price, the progress of construction, operation and maintenance... helps BIM become more and more inevitable trend of the construction industry to optimize the design, construction and project management.

- BIM helps creating models and drawings exactly as is, makes a detail plan for maintenance project right from the design stage. There is also an advantage for the cost calculation and analysis of the entire life-cycle of project, from the effectiveness of operational management to the analysis and report on the use of space, optimization of operating costs.
In Viet Nam, currently, BIM is mostly deployed for the projects with complicated designs and complex engineering systems including projects using the State budget capital, private capital or foreign investment. Although, many investors are aware of the effectiveness of BIM application, especially the cost savings in construction and operation. But due to some initial barriers such as training and investment costs for BIM quite high, leading to higher cost compared to traditional design. Project management issue of BIM application needs to be replicated the understanding of this new technology that can take advantage of all the benefits that BIM brings. To projects using the State budget capital, the lack of awareness from investors, lack of standards, implementation guidelines, contract terms, mechanisms for cost design using BIM are the major obstacles. But according to many experts, BIM has a bright future in the coming time because of many advantages that BIM brings when we apply it systematically.
